Old Folks at Home: Warehouse Them or Leave Them on the Ice Floe

Henry and Harriet Callins, having found that all that glitters is not Golden Age, move into Restful Bowers, a community for seniors. It has all the amenities anyone would want, plus a Care Center and Assisted Living facility, their umbrella.

Henry attends meetings, where problems are solved by planning more meetings. For Henry’s fellow residents, the big event each day is waiting for the mailman. They enhance their wealth by scraping off the nickels and dimes that come in charity solicitation letters.

Harriet lives in a world of tea and cookies. Henry is obsessed by a suspicion that residents in the Assisted Living facility are getting an assist they don’t need or want. His curiosity puts his life and that of Harriet in mortal danger.
